Quick Baby Gift

I saw a picture on a Facebook group using this design on a onesie. I fell in love because 1. it looked easy and 2. I knew that I already owned this design. This may be my new go-to baby gift. There are only two fabric pieces to cut. The design is from Lynnie Pinnie. You get the applique monogram plus a matching font in two sizes. Time was tight so I used a font from my software to make the curving of the baby's name go faster.

The flannel burp cloth tutorial can be found here. http://sewlostforyou.blogspot.com/2012/01/burp-cloth-tutorial.html
The bib is from Ikea. You can get a pack of five for cheap. They are a little bit thin and this one is a tad wonky. Usually they are straighter.

Sock Monkey Fun

Maybe this title should be reworded to "What not to make for a craft fair". Let me tell you what I would do differently. For starters, no pockets on the pants. Yes cute detail but adds too much time. The applique is cute but also too much detail. There are way to many pieces on that applique. Finally, using corduroy for the pant ruffle. The fabric choice takes a little bit longer to sew. I priced this outfit at $35 which was very reasonable for the amount of time that was put into it. It did sell. I need to find time to stitch up the rest of the sock monkey corduroy then rework the outfit to make it more profitable.

I sold this little sock monkey outfit at my first craft show. Last summer, I saw the cute sock monkey corduroy for sale at Hancock Fabrics. So I picked up a couple of yards. I really need to make another outfit and put it in my non-existent Etsy shop.

The sock monkey applique is from Designs by JuJu.
The pant pattern is Britches and Bloomers. It's a great easy pattern. I just wish the sizing went higher than a size four. It can be used for both boys and girls.

Owl Baby Gifts

I thought I had posted these baby gifts but I can't find it so I guess I need to finally post the pictures. This gift was for my coworker Sam and her partner Sarah. I found out they were doing an owl theme for the baby's room. So the challenge was to find some not so cutesy owls for a baby boy.
The pacifier holder is from Digistitches. I've had this file forever and finally was able to stitch it out.
The Big Sis and Lil Bro designs are from MCA Applique. The owl add-ons are from Just Peachy Applique.

This sweet little owl is from Savvy Stitches.

The owl design used is from Five Star Fonts. I love that is has a completely different look from most of the owls on the market. I think it's a great design for a boy.

Another Patriotic Bloomer

Here is another baby bloomer that I stitched out. I posted this design a while back but I sent them to Lauren to take care of the bows.  I think I might make a couple of these for next fourth of July and send them to Lauren to finish. I hate making the bows. It takes me forever to make them look right. Then stitching it on with the machine can be a bear. I almost think hand stitching would be better. So I'm going to leave it up to the bow expert to make and attach the bows.

My First Try at Ruffled Bloomers

Here is my first try at embroidery on baby bloomers or diaper covers. It is a tad difficult to get these little things embroidered. You are working on a small area and the bloomers have two layers to them so that can also be tricky. Lauren and I thought we would see how these looked underneath her tutus. I still need to tweak the 4th of July design. I'm not quite happy with it. For one, there are more stitches than I'd like. The more stitches, the longer you're sitting at the machine. You can see it's a little bit wrinkled. I even used starch before I started the stitch out. The little Miss Independent design came from Stitch on Time.
This design is from Just Peachy Designs. The cupcake looks a little bit wonky right now but it's not finished. I shipped it off to Lauren to add a korker bow to it. Do you see the half circle at the top of the design, that's where the korker will be placed.
The font is from MCA Applique.

Burp Cloth Tutorial

My goal was to work on this tutorial last year, but I'm close. I was only a few weeks late.  They're not too difficult. Basically you are making a flannel diaper then adding your embroidery. I prefer making flannel burps instead of using the Gerber birds eye diapers. Flannel gets softer and more absorbent with each wash.

I do want to mention that this is not an original idea from me. I saw a tutorial several years ago over on Sew Forum. My measurements are a little bit larger than the original tutorial. Click the Scribd link to get the PDF file for the burps. Enjoy!

The haystack boy design if from Lynnie Pinnie.

The "E" is from the Jack and Jill Alphabet from Planet Applique. The font used for Ethan's name is Just Another Serif from 8 Claws and a Paw. Another great font from Julie and Joe.
The barn design is from Applique Alley.
Finally, this tractor is from Applique Chick.

A Birthday Onsie for Stacy

My daughter Lauren called and asked if I could make a onsie for her. She was making a birthday tutu for someone and wanted a onsie that would match. The tutu will be turquoise, hot pink, orange, green and yellow. We decided to do this little birthday balloon. The design is smaller than I like. But bumping the design up to the next larger size would be too big and I didn't want to deal with a large embroidery hoop on this little garment.
This font is called Girls and it's from 8 Claws and a Paw. It's a gorgeous font. The balloon is from Planet Applique.

Baby Isabella, A Hungry Badger?

We have a new baby in the business family. One of Jeff's employees is now a proud father. These are some things I made for her.
We live in the Badger state, Bucky Badger that is. So the bib is a take on the Wisconsin Badgers and that little YouTube video on the Honey Badger. When I was thinking about a baby gift, I thought I would do a badger applique. This design is from Embroidery Library. Then the idea hit me to use the phrase from the honey badger but turn it into the hungry badger. I believe I used Leon from 8 Claws and a Paw for the saying.

I put the same applique design on this little onesie. I used a font from my software package, can't remember which one though.
The little polka dot frame is from Embroidery RN. I can't remember which font I used for the letter "I".
Of course some burp cloths. The large monogram is Sweet Varsity from Planet Applique. The small font is the Steinweiss Script from Hang to Dry. I love that font.
Little buggy design is from Planet Applique.

This cute cow design is from Applique Chick. Jeff and his employees are agronomists that work in the dairy industry so I had to have something dairy related.

A Present for Julia

A dear, sweet co-worker of mine gave her notice and today was her last day at work. Instead of giving her a going away present, I made something for her baby. Julia is turning one. The outfits are RTW from Wal-Mart. I went with a size 24months so hopefully, they'll fit the baby by summer.

The poodle design is from Lynnie Pinnie and the Ooh La La font is the Frenchie font 8CAP. The poodle was made with a fur fabric. I think the fabric is called Santa's beard. I could be wrong about that but I purchased it at Joann's. The little tutu design is from Planet Applique and the font for that is Back To Basics, also from 8CAP. Sarah made her first tutu for the baby so I thought the tutu design would be fun.

It's Jungle Time In the Atelier

In June, I had Bridal Week. August brings me Baby Weekend. This past weekend, I needed to sew for three babies. All Boys! Two of the moms had chosen the same layette from Target. My job was to find something that would work with the layette theme.

I luckily had this flannel jungle print in my stash. I had previously worked on some baby gifts that used this fabric. Good thing I bought several yards. I didn't see any in Hancock's or Joann's this past weekend. The burp designs came from ATW or Artistic Thread Works. The applique elephant came from Planet Applique. I was unsure about using the print for the elephant but wanted a cohesive look to the gifts. All I know is that I really like that little elephant. It called for one fabric scrap and stitch out was quick. I've used the "baby" applique before but right now I can't remember which site I got it from.

So two sets finished and sent off. Now for set three. No, it won't be a jungle theme. I don't know the theme of the next baby. So it's seamstresses choice. You'll have to wait on that one. Guaranteed cuteness though.

Baby Things

These are just a couple of little things that I did for co-workers as thank you's. This was the first onsie dress that I've made. I really should have cut the skirt fabric on the bias but what can I say, it was past my bedtime and I wanted to bring it to work the following morning. I loved the little snow girl design. The snow girl design came from lynniepinnie.com. I think that "A" applique also came from there. The font for Addison is from 8clawsandapaw.com. I haven't been to work for a few days so I don't know if the onsie fits or not. I rushed around the house that morning so I could press the items. I didn't have time to take pictures so I threw my camera in my bag and took the pictures once I got to work. It really was a waste of my time to iron the little things because I threw them into a plastic bag . Not very smart on my part.

Baby Gifts

Lauren has a baby shower coming up for a friend. She is making a diaper cake and wanted some personalized things for the cake. I made a little tag toy, burp cloths and embroidered the onsie. I don't like working on the onsies because they are so small. I usually put the baby's name on the burps but the mom changed the spelling of the name and Lauren wasn't sure what she was going to end up with. I decided just to do a monogram design instead.
