Quick Baby Gift

I saw a picture on a Facebook group using this design on a onesie. I fell in love because 1. it looked easy and 2. I knew that I already owned this design. This may be my new go-to baby gift. There are only two fabric pieces to cut. The design is from Lynnie Pinnie. You get the applique monogram plus a matching font in two sizes. Time was tight so I used a font from my software to make the curving of the baby's name go faster.

The flannel burp cloth tutorial can be found here. http://sewlostforyou.blogspot.com/2012/01/burp-cloth-tutorial.html
The bib is from Ikea. You can get a pack of five for cheap. They are a little bit thin and this one is a tad wonky. Usually they are straighter.

Owl Baby Gifts

I thought I had posted these baby gifts but I can't find it so I guess I need to finally post the pictures. This gift was for my coworker Sam and her partner Sarah. I found out they were doing an owl theme for the baby's room. So the challenge was to find some not so cutesy owls for a baby boy.
The pacifier holder is from Digistitches. I've had this file forever and finally was able to stitch it out.
The Big Sis and Lil Bro designs are from MCA Applique. The owl add-ons are from Just Peachy Applique.

This sweet little owl is from Savvy Stitches.

The owl design used is from Five Star Fonts. I love that is has a completely different look from most of the owls on the market. I think it's a great design for a boy.

Burp Cloth Tutorial

My goal was to work on this tutorial last year, but I'm close. I was only a few weeks late.  They're not too difficult. Basically you are making a flannel diaper then adding your embroidery. I prefer making flannel burps instead of using the Gerber birds eye diapers. Flannel gets softer and more absorbent with each wash.

I do want to mention that this is not an original idea from me. I saw a tutorial several years ago over on Sew Forum. My measurements are a little bit larger than the original tutorial. Click the Scribd link to get the PDF file for the burps. Enjoy!

The haystack boy design if from Lynnie Pinnie.

The "E" is from the Jack and Jill Alphabet from Planet Applique. The font used for Ethan's name is Just Another Serif from 8 Claws and a Paw. Another great font from Julie and Joe.
The barn design is from Applique Alley.
Finally, this tractor is from Applique Chick.

Baby Isabella, A Hungry Badger?

We have a new baby in the business family. One of Jeff's employees is now a proud father. These are some things I made for her.
We live in the Badger state, Bucky Badger that is. So the bib is a take on the Wisconsin Badgers and that little YouTube video on the Honey Badger. When I was thinking about a baby gift, I thought I would do a badger applique. This design is from Embroidery Library. Then the idea hit me to use the phrase from the honey badger but turn it into the hungry badger. I believe I used Leon from 8 Claws and a Paw for the saying.

I put the same applique design on this little onesie. I used a font from my software package, can't remember which one though.
The little polka dot frame is from Embroidery RN. I can't remember which font I used for the letter "I".
Of course some burp cloths. The large monogram is Sweet Varsity from Planet Applique. The small font is the Steinweiss Script from Hang to Dry. I love that font.
Little buggy design is from Planet Applique.

This cute cow design is from Applique Chick. Jeff and his employees are agronomists that work in the dairy industry so I had to have something dairy related.

Troubles in the Atelier

Sometimes things just don't go your way. Why does that happen? Last week, I had more than my share of mishaps. Mishaps in the sewing room usually cost money and certainly time. Very few of us have an overabundance of both.
Things began as a normal week. On day, I had a doctor's appt. I had some time between the appointment and work so I thought I would multi-task and get a little sewing done while I was getting ready for work. I usually don't leave my machine while it's running. But when you try to squeeze in a project you do what you can. Things were going well. I was working on a shirt for my nephew. I kept running into the sewing room to make sure there were no problems. I started getting more and more confident that I didn't need to babysit my machine. On my final check of the machine, I saw there was indeed a problem. The machine should have finished the design. I thought maybe the bobbin had run out or the embroidery thread broke. No a much bigger problem. My machine had eaten the t-shirt. With the vibration of the machine, the shirt fell in the way of the needle and all hell broke loose. The t-shirt was eventually pulled thru the embroidery foot and the needle broke. I shut the machine off since I was now not going to get this finished in time to go to work. When I had time to look at it, I knew there was no way to salvage the t-shirt. Between the hole that the broken needle made and having to take scissors to get the t-shirt out of the machine, the shirt wasn't wearable.
My camera doesn't take close up pictures so this is pretty blurry. Trust me, there are a couple of puncture holes in the shirt.

A couple of days later, the next great mishap occurred. For those of you who do machine embroidery, it's not a super quick process. Well, at least not for me. I have to find the perfect design, then find the perfect font. Some times it takes a lot of playing with the design and the font to make it work in your hoop. This little burp cloth took a lot of work getting this design to look like this. Pretty special, huh? Well it would be had I spelled the baby's name correctly. So once again, I had to go back to the drawing board and start all over. It was a challenge to get the misspelled name onto the cloth let alone the correct spelling. Live and learn.

Cowboy Themed Baby Items

I've had several of these cowboy designs for a while now and have been itching to stitch them out. My friend Kim has a new grandbaby so here was my chance to try out the designs. Most of the designs are from Planet Applique. The cowboy hat is from Designs by Juju and the little cowboy is from Aunty M Designs.

Baby Gifts

Lauren has a baby shower coming up for a friend. She is making a diaper cake and wanted some personalized things for the cake. I made a little tag toy, burp cloths and embroidered the onsie. I don't like working on the onsies because they are so small. I usually put the baby's name on the burps but the mom changed the spelling of the name and Lauren wasn't sure what she was going to end up with. I decided just to do a monogram design instead.
