Fun Stuff at the Bunkhouse

I have two treasures that I've been meaning to show you. The first one, a vintage pajama pattern, I scored off of Ebay a couple of months ago. If this isn't the cutest little thing. Sure the clowns are cute but I bought this solely for the cowboy view. This will be great for either boy or girl pajamas. The copyright date is 1950. I can't wait to sew this up some day. Which reminds me, I need to purchase more Swedish tracing paper. When working with vintage patterns, it's best to trace them and use your copies instead of the original. I also need to quit stalling and order the sleeves to protect my patterns.

The second item that I want to show you is this sweet cowboy and cowgirl flannel. I don't have a clue what I'm going to make with it yet. My friend Barb B. gifted this to me. I had dropped her off at her house after quilt camp. Neither one of us noticed that her coat was still in the back of my truck. I told her that I could swing it by on my day off. I drove over to her house and knocked on the door. Her husband answered and said to wait a minute. He brought this fabric over to me. I was taken aback. What I did was an easy favor for Barb and here she gave this to me for the favor. I told her husband that the gift wasn't necessary, but boy did I clutch that fabric tightly as I walked back to my car.

Fabric.com Equals Love

Every single day I receive an email from fabric.com. That's ok with me. It's not spam. They have a different special every day hence the frequent emails. Well over a week ago, the special of the day was an additional 30% off clearance prices. What's not to love about that. Well off I went to see if there were any treasures.

Right out of the gates, I spied this wonderful polka dot print from Michael Miller. I love polka dots. Like black and red, I considered them to be neutral. Polka dots seem to work with just about any quilt or children's garments. This print looks so whimsical to me.

I continued my search for bargains. I scored a Kaffe Fassett print. I'm thinking eventually that piece will be used for a child's frock. It's a directional design so I don't think I'll be putting it into a quilt. Maybe the best score was a vibrant, plaid seersucker fabric. Lot of colors, fushia, green, blue.

After a while of flipping screens, I decided to narrow my search. I typed in "cowboy" and brought up four pages of cowboy and western prints. I ended up adding two prints to the shopping cart. Well, ok, maybe those weren't on clearance. I saw the cowboy word print and thought that this piece would work in my quilts, clothing or crafts. Now that I have this wonderful little gem under my roof, I don't know if I'll be able to cut into it. Isn't that the problem with so many quilters and fabriholics? Ya just can't cut it.

More Cowboy Love

Alright folks, I want you to pony up to the hitchin' post and meet the boys. Let me introduce you to Jeb, Pole Cat, Hal, Slim, Squirt and Tex.

Last year, I posted a picture of this quilt in it's unfinished stage. Finally, finally another cowboy quilt is finished. I love the colors on this quilt. I love the fabrics of the quilt. I hate that it won't be mine. Boo Hoo.

This quilt wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for my friend Pat and her Magic Bobbin Genie. I mentioned something a while ago regarding my frustration with free motion quilting on my new machine. Well, with another foot and Pat's washer that seemed to do the trick. No tension issues or broken upper thread on this quilt. Meandering was done on the border and on the main part of the quilt, I did loops to sort of mimic a lasso.

When I mentioned to Jeff that all my favorite quilts go to others, he said "Well just buy more fabric." Really? Really? Well, twist my arm, ok. Done deal.

Cowboy Love

What can I say. I love quirky things. About 3-4 years ago, my little nephew was visiting. He spent all of Thanksgiving holiday with a holster around his hip and a bandana around his face. One day, I saw some cowboy fabric and it made me think of him. An obsession was born. I picked up fabric from all over. Leave it to me to find a fabric store out west that only sells cowboy and western fabric. When I saw the cowboy toile on the website, I had to have it. You can see that I have one cowboy quilt in progress. One has already been made so that is why my collection is dwindling. You can see two of my favorite fabrics on the left. The "brand" fabric and the cowboy toile. Did the French have cowboys? Do you see the fabric with the large cowboys on the horses? I have a couple of lil' cowboys in my life but that fabric is mine, all mine.
